What Should You Do If Arrested for a DUI?
CHP officers arrested 1226 drivers for driving under the influence in California over the Labor Day Holiday. So, what should you do if arrested for a DUI? There are a few vital things anyone arrested for driving under the influence should immediately do. One of them is to write down everything that you can remember about the night. The more you can remember about your arrest, the easier it will be for your attorney to stage your defense. Examples of what you should write down include:
- How much and what did you have to drink?
- Approximately what time did you start and finish drinking?
- Who were you with?
- What were you doing just before you drove?
- How long after your last drink where you arrested?
- How did law enforcement pull you over?
- How did the officers conduct themselves?
- What did the officers say to you?
- What instructions did the officers give you?
- What did you tell the officers?
- Where were you pulled over?
- When you took the chemical test, how long had it been since you had your last drink?
- Before taking the chemical test did you burp, regurgitate or vomit?
- Were you read your Miranda rights?
Include in your notes everything that you can remember, even if it seems irrelevant.
