Getting arrested for driving under the influence (DUI/DWI) during the Christmas and New Year holiday comes with a unique set of circumstances. While most businesses are closed, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Criminal Courts remain open. Individuals arrested for a DUI are required to contact the DMV within ten days of his or her arrest in order to stay the automatic license suspension. The fact that it is the holiday season does not extend this deadline in anyway. Additionally, the Courts are still open and arrests may require the immediate posting of bail or surety bond.
